Our Project
The UCSC-Cabrillo "Ecotopia House" is a pilot 600-square foot tiny home and part of a larger effort to design, develop and build low-rise, infill housing in urban areas. The house is a fixed-foundation, two-story structure and includes two upstairs bedrooms, a downstairs living room (also usable as a bedroom), a kitchen, and 1.5 bathrooms. Our goal is to create a high-performance, low-cost, energy efficient, and standardized housing option for low and moderate income Santa Cruz County residents. The ecotopia house will provide residents with a home that has same conveniences as a standard home, but at a much smaller living footprint, as well as economic cost. The tiny home will incorporate cutting edge green building and energy efficiency design strategies, and only cost around $60 per square foot. Ultimately, the project is designed to decrease our community's residential ecological and carbon footprints, as well as provide an affordable housing option. |
