The Tiny House CompetitionThis year, the Sacramento Municipal Utilities Department (SMUD) will be advancing the Tiny House movement by hosting a Tiny House Competition for California's universities, colleges, and other post-secondary education institutions. On October 15, 2016, students from 11 of California's higher education institutions, including UC Santa Cruz and Cabrillo College, will enter their student-built Tiny Homes into the competition at Cosumnes River College in Sacramento. Each Tiny Home will judged based on the project's architectural design, energy efficiency, livability, and communications and public outreach. Ultimately, the competition will allow higher education students to introduce innovative, small scale, and sustainable living solutions for the economic and societal issues associated with our state's housing market.
